Sunrise Square Butte

Square Butte was an iconic image in several of Charlie Russell's paintings. I recently discovered a different vantage point in the area and set out to capture this butte at sunrise with snow on the ground. I made several trips and finally got the perfect lighting with the fresh layer of snow. The temperature that morning was -24° at 6:25 am. Even though the temperature outside was very cold, the sunrise helped bring a warmth to this subject.
