View from a Clearcut

Inspired by the work of Emily Carr and personal experiences in the planted forests of Northern British Columbia. Howley uses photographs of her travels and time tree planting in Western Canada as a jumping off point for her paintings. Her work discusses the various ways human intervention has harmed the environment, these beautiful landscapes are home to greedy industries that have only perpetuated the climate crisis. Healthy old growth forests are mere memories, young monocrops taking their place.
