New Growth

New Growth, Artist Over 65
New Growth
This is a plein air painting. I painted it in three different session during three days. I liked the combination of new and old growth and the way the light was hitting the tree, the tall grasses and the rocks. I stood under a large tree so the direct light would not hit my palette and painting. The painting was centered around a trip with another artist to work on our outdoor skills. I used alkyd Oils, Liquin for a medium. After sketching the back trees and the center of interest with Magenta I began painting. I am a direct painter in that I began with the the dark trees in the back and worked to the center of interest. I used magenta in this painting to complement the deep greens. I leave the sky to the last because I sometimes get it too dark for the rest of the painting even though I have been painting 50 years.,
