Mountainside Iridescence

The collection of notes, sketches, painting studies and photo reference for this piece began a couple of years ago during an overnight camping trip to this spot, which was about a day's hike into the central Oregon Cascade Mountains to get there. Armed with a sketchbook, color charts and my cell phone, I gathered notes, sketches and photos to bring back to the studio. I painted a few studies in various compositions soon after that time, and then recently explored this particular composition and decided to also try it in this larger format.
